The formula

What is Modex HydrationX?

Modex HydrationX is a TGA-listed oral electrolyte medicine formulated as a 4g powder sachet dissolved in 500mL water. One to two sachets daily.

Five active ingredients. Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamin C and Pycnogenol®. Each dosed with precision. Not at arbitrary label-claim levels, but at concentrations derived from clinical evidence and calibrated to the Australian Adequate Intake and Recommended Dietary Intake standards.

The result: a hypotonic electrolyte formula at 147 mOsmol/L, well below the isotonic threshold for superior intestinal water absorption when your body needs it most.

The hypotonic advantage

Not all hydration is equal.

(01)

Faster Cellular
Absorption

Hypotonic solutions are more dilute than blood plasma. This creates an osmotic gradient that drives water across intestinal cells into the bloodstream faster than isotonic drinks — which match blood osmolality and require active transport mechanisms.

(02)

Sodium-Driven,
Sugar-Free

Clarke et al. (2019) demonstrated Beverage Hydration Index increases with sodium concentration independently of glucose. HydrationX achieves superior hydration through electrolyte precision alone — no added sugar required to drive absorption.

(03)

Clinically Superior
Fluid Retention

Savoie et al. (2015) found sodium-induced hyperhydration retained 1,144 ± 294 mL of fluid — significantly more than glycerol-based strategies — with lower urine production. Greater retention means longer-lasting hydration and reduced dehydration risk during sustained exertion.

(04)

EFSA Validated
Range

The European Food Safety Authority defines hypotonic drinks as 50–270 mOsmol/kg. HydrationX at 147 mOsmol/L sits precisely within this validated window. Above this range, osmotic pressure works against you — slowing gut absorption and compounding dehydration risk.

The formulation

Five ingredients. Zero guesswork.

(01)

Sodium Chloride
517.5mg

The primary hydration electrolyte. At 517.5mg elemental sodium per 500mL serving, HydrationX exceeds the WHO Oral Rehydration Salts standard (511.42mg/500mL) and precisely matches the dose used in the Millard-Stafford et al. (2021) high-quality double-blind RCT — the gold-standard study showing electrolytes delivered the greatest net hydration effect above water. Within Australian Adequate Intake (460–920mg/day). TGA-registered indication: relieve symptoms of dehydration.

(02)

Potassium Citrate
200mg

Potassium works in concert with sodium to maintain the electrochemical gradients essential for muscle contraction and nerve signalling. At 200mg elemental potassium as citrate — for enhanced bioavailability over chloride salts — HydrationX targets the minimum effective range of 100–300mg established in clinical evidence. Maughan et al. (2016) confirmed drinks with positive potassium balance produced the highest Beverage Hydration Index scores. TGA-registered indication: maintain electrolyte balance.

(03)

Magnesium Citrate
56.25mg

Involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions including energy production, protein synthesis and muscle function. At 56.25mg elemental magnesium as citrate — the most bioavailable oral form — HydrationX delivers a targeted contribution to daily requirements. Formulated to support muscle relaxation and electrolyte homeostasis without displacing absorption of co-ingested minerals. TGA-registered indication: maintain muscle function and electrolyte balance.

(04)

Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
45mg

Exactly 45mg — not a round number selected for marketing, but the precise Australian Recommended Dietary Intake for adults. Vitamin C is the body's primary water-soluble antioxidant, directly neutralising free radicals generated during physical exertion. At the RDI dose, every sachet fully replenishes daily antioxidant requirements without the diminishing returns seen at megadose supplementation. TGA-registered indications: antioxidant activity, immune system support, and energy production.

(05)

Pycnogenol®
20mg extract

Maritime Pine Bark extract — 40 years of research, 160+ clinical trials, 12,000+ patients studied. The same proprietary ingredient that anchors Modex FLOW. At 20mg extract (equivalent to 20g dry stem bark, 1000:1 concentration), Pycnogenol® brings its full antioxidant and anti-inflammatory profile to HydrationX — protecting cells against the oxidative stress of physical exertion and supporting vascular health for improved circulation during performance.

The evidence

The research that shaped the formula.

Electrolytes vs Water

A high-quality double-blind RCT finding a sugar-free electrolyte drink containing sodium and potassium was the most effective beverage tested — delivering greater than 12% net effect on Beverage Hydration Index above water alone.

Millard-Stafford et al., 2021 — Double-blind RCT.

Sodium is the Key Driver

Demonstrated that Beverage Hydration Index increases with increasing beverage sodium concentration, independently of glucose or amino acid content. Sodium concentration, not sugar, is the primary determinant of hydration efficiency.

Clarke et al., 2019 — Beverage sodium concentration study.

Superior Fluid Retention

Sodium-induced hyperhydration retained 1,144 ± 294 mL more fluid than glycerol-based strategies, with lower urine production and greater fluid availability during sustained exertion. Demonstrates the superiority of sodium over alternative hyperhydration approaches.

Savoie et al., 2015 — Sodium hyperhydration trial.

Electrolyte Balance & BHI

Landmark Beverage Hydration Index study showing drinks with the most positive sodium and potassium balance produced the highest BHI scores — outperforming water on fluid retention. Combined sodium and potassium is the gold standard for hydration.

Maughan et al., 2016 — Beverage Hydration Index study, 13 beverages.

Clinical proof

The numbers.

>12%

Net hydration advantage above water

Millard-Stafford et al., 2021. High-quality double-blind RCT. A sugar-free electrolyte drink containing sodium and potassium delivered the greatest net effect on Beverage Hydration Index — over 12% above plain water — across all beverages tested.

1,144mL

Fluid retained with sodium hyperhydration

Savoie et al., 2015. Sodium-induced hyperhydration retained significantly more fluid than glycerol strategies — 1,144 ± 294 mL — with lower urine production and greater fluid availability for sustained performance.

100%

Australian Vitamin C RDI per serve

Every 4g sachet of HydrationX delivers exactly 45mg of Vitamin C — the precise Australian Recommended Dietary Intake for adults, set by the NHMRC. Not a marketing dose. The evidence dose. One sachet completely meets daily antioxidant requirements from Vitamin C.

Stay Ready.
